Mount Olive Continues In Conference Baseball Tournament

University of Mount Olive continued in the Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament with a 3-2 win against Barton College and falling Saturday against Pfeiffer 10-4. Mount Olive will again play Belmont Abbey for a spot in the Conference Carolinas Championship game.

In game one versus Barton Mount Olive fell behind after a two run bottom of the first for the Bulldogs. The Trojans tied the game up in the top of the fifth off back-to-back singles by Brandon Day and Zak Orrison.

Mount Olive was able to take its first lead in the top half of the seventh. Joe Koehler singled to right center to lead off the inning. He then advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt, and also moved to third after a wild pitch. Orrison picked up the RBI with a base hit into right and Mount Olive took the lead for good. 

Austin Hutchinson (6-3) took the win on the mound as he pitched a complete game allowing two runs off nine hits and struck out six. 

In game two Mount Olive went down early as Pfeiffer took the lead in the top of the first 2-0. a five run top of the second gave the Falcons a lead the Trojans were unable to recover from. Mount Olive was able to score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. A two run eighth inning allowed the Trojans to draw as close as they could in the game, but the deficit proved to be to great and Mount Olive fell.

Mount Olive will take on Belmont Abbey for the second time in the tournament Sunday at 1:15 p.m., with the winner advancing to the championship final against Pfeiffer at 4 p.m.
