Mount Olive, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive baseball team brought out the brooms as the Trojans took game three from Lander University 14-2 on their way to winning the three-game series on Sunday afternoon at Scarborough Field in Mount Olive, N.C.

  • Mount Olive took the early lead as David Mayo scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run
  • Ben Connor added two more runs for the Trojans on a two-run home run to dead center to extend the lead.
  • Lander scored two runs in the top of the third to draw within one.
  • The Trojans came out of the gate with two big innings in the bottom of the fourth and eight as 10 runs came across the plate to push Mount Olive out to a 14-2 cushion.


  • Brighton Hudson (1-0) picked up the win for Mount Olive pitching six innings, striking out five, and allowing two runs off five hits and a walk.
  • Ricky Surum led the offense going 4-for-4 with four RBI, a home run, two doubles, and two runs scored.
