Railsplitters Advance With Walk-Off Against Georgia College

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- The No. 7 Seeded Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters walked off the No. 6 Seeded Georgia College Bobcats in the bottom of the ninth with two outs in a 7-6 victory.

  • Lincoln Memorial took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after three straight Railsplitter hits led to runs.  Logan Augustine doubled to start the inning and later scored on Russell Clark's single for the opening run of the contest.  Timmy Wages delivered a two-run homer to left field to give Lincoln Memorial the 3-0 advantage.
  • LMU jumped out to a commanding 6-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.  After a double by Nate Stinson to open the inning, Mason Ewers pushed Stinson across to score with a base knock up the middle of the diamond.  Ewers would later score on a wild pitch.  LMU tacked on the final run of the inning with a bases loaded groundout by Eric Kalman.
  • Georgia College would fight back in the top of the seventh inning to start a late rally.  Nate Schmal singled to left center and moved to second on a wild pitch before scoring on Phillip Stiles' double down the right field line to cut the deficit to 6-1.
  • The Bobcats added two runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to 6-4 with three runs off two hits and two errors.  Brandon Benson sparked the rally with a lead-off single to right.  Logan Mattix kept the inning moving reaching on a throwing error.  Brandon Purcell tripled down the right field line to score Benson and Mattix with one out in the inning.  Purcell came around to score on a Clayten Ayres RBI groundout to second.
  • GC did not go away quietly in their final at-bat in the ninth trailing 6-4.  Cal Gentry opened the inning with a single to right followed by Brandon Benson doubling to left field to bring home Gentry.  Brandon Purcell would come up with two outs and deliver a RBI single to knot the contest at 6-all.
  • Timmy Wages walked off the contest on a sacrifice fly to left center as the Railsplitters loaded the bases on a single by Seth Hunt and two walks in the inning with one out.


  • Dominic Morabito (8-4) picked up the win out of the bullpen tossing one inning allowing two hits and one run.
  • Perry Keith (2-3) took the loss tossing 1.2 innings giving up one run on two hits.
  • Brandon Purcell went 3-5 with a triple and three RBI in the loss for Georgia College.
  • Timmy Wages hit a home run with three RBI for LMU for the win.
