Trio Of Trojans Earn All-America Honors

The University of Mount Olive's Austin HutchisonZack Mozingo, and Drew Ellis were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association and D2 Conference Commissioners Association NCAA Division II All-America Teams, it was announced this week.

Hutchison, a senior from Dandridge, Tenn., earned first-team All-America honors at starting pitcher in both the NCWBA and D2CCA teams. 

He also earned unanimous Regional Pitcher of the Year honors while being placed on the first team of all three all-region teams. The senior was named the Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-Conference Carolinas selection. He finished the season 12-1 record with a 1.82 ERA. Hutchison led all pitchers nationally in NCAA Division II with 12 victories and is fourth nationally with seven complete games this season. He also ranked 22nd nationally in NCAA Division II with 97 strikeouts in 94 innings this season. Hutchison was named the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week once during the season by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Mozingo, a senior from Goldsboro, N.C., was named first-team All-America at relief pitcher in both the NCWBA and D2CCA teams and second team All-America at Designated Hitter in the NCWBA team. The senior was a triple threat for UMO this season splitting time between the mound, the outfield, and at DH.

He was named to the NCBWA & ABCA All-Region first team at relief pitcher, NCWBA first team at designated hitter, and the D2CCA first team at relief pitcher and second team designated hitter. Mozingo broke the single season saves record this season and finished the year with 13, third highest in NCAA DII, to go along with a 1.22 ERA. At the plate the senior hit .338 with 16 home runs, 13 doubles, and 47 RBI. He was also a Conference Carolinas fist team selection at both DH and relief pitcher.

Ellis, a junior from Blythewood, S.C., was named to the third team All-America at first base by D2CCA. He was also named to the first team all-region squad for D2CCA and earned second team honors on the NCWBA all-region team. The junior led the team with 19 home runs, two coming in the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament held at Mount Olive, and 51 walks this season with a second best 56 RBI and .349 overall average. He was also a Conference Carolinas fist team selection.
