Zimmermann Named CoSIDA Academic All-America

Mount Olive, N.C. – University of Mount Olive senior pitcher Bruce Zimmermann has been named third-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Baseball Academic All-America, it was announced Thursday. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

The Academic All-America® teams include the student-athletes from eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

Zimmerman, a senior business management major from Woodstock, Md., helped the No.1 ranked Trojans Capture their 14th Conference Championship and the top-seed in the NCAA DII Southeast region while being named to the 1st team All-Conference Carolinas team. On the season the right-hander amassed a 9-2 record with 129 strikeouts, tying Trojan alum Carter Capps' single-season strikeout record. He finished the regular season in second in NCAA DII in total strikeouts, 14th in strikeouts per nine innings, and T-12th in total victories. Zimmermann led the Conference Carolinas in strikeouts and was fourth in ERA and wins. He was named to the Conference Carolinas Presidential Honor Roll, the Academic All-Conference Carolinas team, and ABCA, D2CCA, and NCBWA second-team all-Southeast Region teams.
