Barton Tops Saint Augustine's In Opening Game Of 51st Annual Pickle Classic

Mount Olive, N.C. – The Barton College Bulldogs defeat Saint Augustine's University 73-64 in the opening game of the 51st Annual Mt. Olive Pickle Classic in Mount Olive, N.C. Friday night.

How It Happened


  • Barton started off the game on a 7-2 run before back-to-back buckets by Saint Augustine's Anthony Gaskins made it a one-point game 7-6 with four minutes gone in the opening half.
  • The Falcons started to breakaway in the later half of the half as Saint Augustine's opened up a double-digit lead 33-23 with under six minutes to play.
  • The half ended with the Falcons edging out the Bulldogs by eight, 41-33 heading into halftime.


  • The Bulldogs trailed for much of the second half as well until with under 12:30 to play in the game Barton charged ahead. 
  • Jeff Gordan was good on his jump shot attempt and started a 6-0 run that gave Barton the lead back for the first time in the half.
  • A seven-point run with under three minutes to play sealed the win and Barton pushed ahead by 10 with 52 seconds left in the game.


  • Michael Boykin led all scorers for barton with 14 points and four assists.
  • R.J. Claypool (12_ and Daniel Westbrook (11) both added double-figure scoring nights to aid in the Bulldogs win.
  • Barton Shot 40% (26-65) from the field and went 76.5% (13-17) from the charity stripe
  • Anthony Gaskins led the Falcons with 22 points and added three boards.
  • Kenneth Collins (12) and Quincy January (10) also added double-figure nights.
  • Saint Augustine's shot 35.4% (23-65) from the field and went 64.7% (11-17) from the free-throw line.
