Dan Shields Named Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Player Of The Week

Daniel Shields, who helped University of Mount Olive outscore its opponents 43-9 in a pair of wins last week, has been named Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week. The award is Shields' first this season.

A senior attack from Mercer Island, Wash., scored nine goals in two games as the Trojans posted a pair of 17-goal wins. In Mount Olive's 20-3 victory over Alderson-Broaddus, Shields scored the first goal of the game and three of his five goals during a run that gave the Trojans a 16-0 lead. He added four goals in the Trojans' 23-6 win over Ohio Valley. Shields had a goal and an assist during a 10-0 run that broke a 2-2 first period tie.

For the season, Shields is tied with his brother, Matt, for the team lead with 23 goals. He also has eight assists for 31 points.

Mount Olive received votes in the USILA Division II Men's Lacrosse Top 25 for the second week in a row. Last week's two wins extended the Trojans' winning streak to four.

Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Saint Leo in a non-conference match-up. The contest was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but pushed back a day due to the weather. Face off is 2 p.m. at Amon Field.
