Trojans Advance To Conference Tournament Semifinals With 24-5 Win Over Lees-McRae

Mount Olive, N.C. – The 15th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated Lees-McRae College, 24-5, in the quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Men's Lacrosse Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr. Track & Field/Lacrosse Complex.

How It Happened


  • Mount Olive scored first just 42 seconds into the game as sophomore Austin Whitlow scored an unassisted goal to push the Trojans in front.
  • Lees-McRae responded with three-straight goals over a span of just over three minutes that gave the Bobcats a 3-1 lead with 7:54 left in the quarter.
  • Seniors Jesse Mitchell and Eddie Hendrickson tied the game at three with a goal each.
  • UMO closed the opening quarter with two more goals that gave the Trojans the 5-3 advantage after 15 minutes.


  • The Trojans dominated the second quarter as UMO outscored the Bobcats 7-0 and took a 12-3 lead into halftime.


  • Junior Cody Graden recorded the first goal of the second half increasing UMO's lead to 13-3 with 10:01 left in the quarter.
  • After Lees-McRae scored to cut its deficit to single digits at 13-4, UMO scored five unanswered goals to close the quarter to grab an 18-4 advantage.


  • The final quarter was controlled by the Trojans as UMO outscored the Bobcats, 6-1, and Mount Olive earned the 24-5 victory.


  • Mitchell led the Trojans with a career-high five goals in the win.
  • Also recording a hat trick in the victory was senior Brett Kingston.
  • Kingston also led the way for UMO with nine ground balls in the win
  • Between the posts, Urban (W: 11-4) earned the victory, making six saves on 10 shots in 45 minutes in goal.
  • The 24 goals tied a program record for most goals in a single game.
  • UMO outshot the Bobcats 67-20 in the win.

Mount Olive travels to Tigerville, S.C. for the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinals where UMO will take on second-seeded Belmont Abbey College on Friday evening at approximately 7 p.m.
