No. 11 Trojans Fall 8-6 To No. 8 Mercyhurst

Mount Olive, N.C. – The 11th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team fell to the Lakers of No. 8 Mercyhurst University 8-6 in non-conference competition Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr Track and Field/Lacrosse Complex.

Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive got the scoreboard on an unassisted goal by Brody Sullivan that came a minute after Mercyhurst tallied their first goal.
  • Mercyhurst controlled the rest of the first quarter scoring two more goals taking a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The Trojans added their second goal as Jacob Ball connected with the net on an unassisted shot closing the Lakers lead to two, 4-2.
  • Mercyhurst entered halftime with the 5-2 advantage over the home Trojans.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The Lakers extended their lead to four, 6-2, following a man-up opportunity, before Mount Olive countered with two goals, from Ball and Brady Elbin, to close the third quarter trailing by two, 6-4.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Despite scoring two goals in the final quarter the Trojans could not manage to catch the No. 8 Lakers who won 8-6 after a competitive 60 minutes of action.

Mount Olive will return to action March 14 when the Trojans will take on the University of Indianapolis at the Ray McDonald Track and Field/Lacrosse Complex. The first face-off is set for 4 p.m. following the women's game against West Chester at 12 p.m.
