No. 24 Trojans Defeat King 9-0 In Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Opener

Edgar Bub and Paul Wiederspahn rallied from a 6-1 deficit to win at No. 1 doubles and nationally 24th-ranked University of Mount Olive went on to sweep King University 9-0 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Friday at Walker Tennis Center. The match was the Trojans' first in nearly three weeks due to the weather.

Mount Olive (3-3 overall, 1-0 Conference Carolinas) held a 2-0 lead after wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Bub and Wiederspahn broke serve three times on their way to winning seven straight games and giving the Trojans the sweep in doubles play. Mount Olive clinched the overall victory after straight-set wins by Bub at No. 2 singles and Wiederspahn at No. 3 singles.

King (3-7, 2-2) threatened at No. 1 singles, but Mount Olive's Matthew Finnerty won a pair of tie-breakers for a 7-6, 7-6 win.

Mount Olive is back in action Saturday as the Trojans play host to Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Match time is 11 a.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
