Mount Olive Track & Field Finish Up Duel Weekend Meets

University of Mount Olive men and women's track and field teams completed a busy weekend as Mount Olive competed in the Wingate Invitational in Wingate, N.C. and the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. this past weekend. Mount Olive set two NCAA Provisional Qualifiers and broke one school record.

On the men's side the top southeast region-ranked Trojans set two NCAA provisional qualifying runs. Akiharu Kitagawa moved into third place all-time in the 10000m with a time of 30:31.13. Kitagawa's time sits 29 seconds under the NCAA Provisional mark required for a spot in the national finals. 

Austin Steagall picked up the other provisional qualifier in the 5000m. Steagall's time of 14:11.10 is 26 seconds faster than the NCAA provisional mark. Also in the track events, Jacob Urys moved himself into third place all-time in the 1500m with a time of 3:54.80.

In the Field events, Nick Greyno moved into fourth place all-time in the javelin with a distance of 48.08m.

On the women's side the sixth regionally ranked Trojans broke one school record. Nichole Poppe moved into first place all-time in the discus. Poppe's throw of 38.09m broke the old record of 37.38m set back in 2012. Also in the field events, Shania Riffle moved into third place all-time in the high jump with a distance of 1.53m.

In the track events Paulena Kremling moved into second place all-time in the 1500m with a time of 4:53.72. 

Mount Olive will travel to compete in the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. March 31.
