Three-Peat Mount Olive Men's & Women's Track & Field Win The 2016 Conference Carolinas Championship!!!

University of Mount Olive Men's and Women's Track and Field made it three years in a row winning the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Banner Elk, N.C. A total of 33 Trojans medalled in the two day championships.

On the men's side, Mount Olive secured seven gold, three silver, and five bronze medals to help the Trojans accumulate 227 total points. Mount Olive finished 12 points ahead of second place Limestone. Austin Steagall, Michael Munoz, and Akiharu Kitagawa swept the board in the 10000m finishing just over five seconds apart from each other.

Mount Olive also swept the board in the 3000m steeplechase. Steagall, Munoz and Frederic Lang took the top three spots finishing two seconds apart.

Nick Greyno took first place in the shot put, discus, and the hammer. Greyno broke his own school records in the shot put and the hammer. Jonathan Engelking took first place in the javelin with a distance of 61.50m. Engelking's throw broke a school record and was also above the NCAA Provisional Qualifing distance.

Cedric Thomas also broke the school record in the 200m with a time of 21.75.

The final school record was broken in the 4x100m relay. Joaquim Cotano, Cedric Thomas, Anthony Edwards, and Guillermo Rendon, set a new Mount Olive best with a total time of 41.90.

On the women's side, Mount Olive secured 10 gold, three silver, and five bronze medals to gather a grand total of 211 points. Second place Limestone was just behind Mount Olive as they had 156.5 points.

Alexis McNeil took first place in the 100m, a new school record, and 200m dashes. Bailee Henry took third in the 1500m run. Emily Shaw Kelsey Valentine first one-two in the 5000m four second apart. Valentine and Shaw again medalled in the 10000m first and third respectively. Valentine then went on to take first in the 3000m steeplechase.

Danielle Hill set a new Mount Olive record in the pole vault with a height of 2.44m.

The team of Ayanna King, Tunisia Prince, Mictasha Mickle, and McNeil broke the school record and won the 4x100 meter relay by just over a second. Prince then took first in the long jump with a distance of 5.75m. Khadijah Kale won gold in the shot put, while also placing second in the hammer. Nichole Poppe took gold in the discus and hammer throws for Mount Olive. Alanna McCarthy took third in the hammer as the Trojans swept the board.

Mount Olive will wait to see if any of their times will qualify them for postseason play.
