No. 16 Mount Olive Falls To North Greenville 3-1 In

No. 16-ranked University of Mount Olive suffered its first defeat of the season falling 3-1 to North Greenville University Friday night in Tigerville, S.C. for Conference Carolinas men's volleyball. Peyton Schirman led the offensive attack with 14 kills.

Mount Olive (2-1 Overall, 1-1 Conference Carolinas) took the first set 21-25 and were within two points of taking a two set lead before North Greenville (3-1, 3-1) finished the set on back-to-back kills and took the second set 25-23.

In the third set the Trojans kept the set to within three points for a majority of the set until a three kill rally by the Crusaders gave North Greenville a 14-9 lead. Mount Olive got to as close as a four point deficit, but were unable to make a comeback.

In the final set Mount Olive tied the set at two after a kill by Mike Mann, but North Greenville charged again. An ensuing four point run by North Greenville opened the game to a margin the Trojans appeared to not be able to close. However down 7-12 Mount Olive took a little momentum back. A four point run brought the Crusader lead to one. The two squads exchanged points and the Crusader cushion remained at one. However a three point rally ended the Trojans hope for a fifth set and North Greenville took the match.

Schirman added five digs to his point total and Mann finished with 11 kills to round out the Mount Olive offense.

Mount Olive will continue its road trip down south as the Trojans head to Franklin Springs, Ga. to take on Emmanuel College Saturday at 11 a.m.
