Mount Olive, N.C. ---  On the Trojans' senior day, the University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team topped Lees-McRae College in a three-set sweep, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18, on Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

How It Happened


  • Following the Bobcats recording the first point, UMO used a 9-3 run to jump out to a five-point lead.
  • Lees-McRae responded with a four-point spurt to cut the Trojans' advantage to just one at 9-8.
  • The Bobcats did not let UMO pull away, eventually tying the set at 13.
  • With Lees-McRae closing back within one at 18-17, UMO used a kill by junior Bret Rutledge and a service ace from senior Alex Palmatier to open up a 20-17 advantage in route to UMO's 25-20 opening set victory.


  • After Lees-McRae held the lead through the first 13 points, the Trojans pushed back to take their first lead at 8-7.
  • Following a tie at nine, UMO outscored the Bobcats 16-8 as the Trojans earned the 25-17 set victory.
  • The Trojans hit a scorching .647 in the second set, committing just one error, to Lees-McRae's .304.


  • UMO opened the third set by scoring the first five points and six of the first seven, forcing a Bobcats' timeout.
  • The Bobcats went on a 6-2 run later in the set to trim the Trojans' advantage to just three at 18-15.
  • UMO pulled away with a 5-1 run to end the set with a 25-18 win and earn the three-set sweep.


  • Junior Robert Poole led the Trojans with 10 kills and two service aces, breaking the program record for service aces in a single season with 48.
  • Fellow junior Jeff Yasalonis recorded 25 assists and six digs to lead UMO.
  • The Trojans outhit Lees-McRae, .362 to .125, in the match.
