Men's Volleyball Earns 2016-17 AVCA Team Academic Award

LEXINGTON, KY. - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team was named a recipient of the 2016-17 America Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, it was announced by the AVCA.

Mount Olive was the sole Conference Carolinas men's squad and one of only four NCAA Division II programs named to the collegiate men's division that had 19 NCAA programs honored.

"I am always proud of the hard work that our players put into this program. It makes me even happier when I know they're putting in work to become better people and better students. Recognition for this achievement is really appreciated and I know the guys are proud of the body of work they put together in the classroom and on the court this year. This is been a goal for this team for the last five seasons and it's great to see them accomplish it. Everyone has to pull their weight in order for us to be recognized. This was an extremely motivated group of young men who have taken advantage of every opportunity at the University. I'm honored to be their coach," said head coach David Heller.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, celebrating its 25th year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
