Mount Olive Takes DH From Elizabeth City State 18-0, 10-1 Tuesday

Kelsey Akers went 4-for-7 with four RBI in the University of Mount Olive's doubleheader sweep of Elizabeth City State University 18-0, 10-1 in Elizabeth City, N.C. for non-conference softball. Savannah Becker went 4-for-4 with two RBI in game one.

Game One Mount Olive 18 Elizabeth City 0:

Mount Olive (16-11) got on the board in the first inning with a sacrifice fly by Tiffany Hawley that scored Akers.

Two home runs in the third help push the Trojans out further as Becker and Kristen Power both went yard. A five run outburst in the fourth put Mount Olive ahead for good. Erin Brogan and Kayla Allen both drove runs in on RBI base hits. An error by the second baseman allowed for two more runs to come in and after another run was driven in Mount Olive had a 12-0 lead.

The Trojans put up a six spot on the board in the fifth as RBI base hits by Becker and Kendall McKinney pushed home three. Corrinne Huber plated Jordan Sutton on an RBI-groundout with one away. Following two more runs scoring, Mount Olive had the game well in hand. After a 1-2-3 bottom half for Elizabeth City State (2-17) the Trojans took game one by virtue of the mercy rule in five innings.

Caitlin Ewers (3-1) went the distance for Mount Olive posting a two hit shutout with three punch outs

Game Two Mount Olive 10 Elizabeth City 1:

In game two Mount Olive (17-11) continued to tee off of the Viking pitching staff. In the second inning three singles spread out over two outs set up Mount Olive to score first in the nightcap. After a dropped fly ball in left, Brogan and Jennifer Jones scored to open up the scoring for the Trojans.

Power added a solo run in the third with an RBI-single. Jonas drove in two more in the fourth as her single scored Akers and Ashleigh Mason. The fifth inning was the big inning for Mount Olive as the Trojans pushed across five runs. Jazmin Montgomery got the inning started with a walk and was pinch run for by Allen. Allen moved to second after a groundout and Jones brought her home with an RBI-single. Brogan singled home Jones and Mount Olive was ahead 7-0. A bunt single by Mason set up Akers to double home two runs on the RBI-double. Talyor Carter brought in the final Trojan run as she reached on a fielding error by the first baseman.

Elizabeth City (2-18) pushed across one run in the bottom of the fifth as T Webb scored on a double steal attempt but the Vikings were unable to come all the way back as they fell in game two.

Lauren Smith (5-6) picked up the win. Smith went four complete and pitched a two hit shutout with five walks.

Mount Olive returns home on Friday to play host to Conference Carolinas for Erskine College at 2 p.m.
