DUE WEST, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team fell in the doubleheader against the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action in Due West, S.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive was unable to get their offense going as Erskine scored the lone run in the bottom of the fifth. 
  • The Trojans best opportunity came in the top of the third as UMO loaded the bases but left them all on base as the final two batters struck out swinging.
  • UMO managed to record five hits in the game but could not manage to get a runner home as they fell 1-0 in game one of the doubleheader.

KEY STATS

  • Mallory Ratcliff (L: 6-6) picked up the loss giving up one run on three hits in six innings while walking two and striking out six.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Game two began with the Trojans putting up four runs in the opening frame. The first two runs came from a Callie Ferrell home run to center field that scored Kayla Allen as well. Anna Ingram scored an unearned run after Kristin Power reached first on a fielders choice with bases loaded for the Trojans third run of the inning. Eileen Barrera wrapped up the scoring in the first inning on the next play as she came home on a wild pitch by Erskine's Houge.
  • The Flying Fleet responded by scoring four runs on an RBI single and a three-run homer to tie the score at four-all heading into the second inning.
  • Erskine struck again as they scored off a stolen base in the bottom of the third taking a 5-4 lead.
  • The Flying Fleet took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning off an RBI single that went down the left field line.
  • The Trojan bats went cold as the Fleet took the 6-4 win and sweep of the doubleheader.

KEY STATS

  • Ferrell led the Trojan offense with a two-run homer to center field.
  • Emily Chaisson (L: 2-6) got the loss after coming in for Taylor Waddell in the first inning. Chaisson gave up two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out one.

Mount Olive returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. The Trojans and Lions take to the field first at 1 p.m. and follow with game two around 3 p.m.
