GAME RUNDOWN

  • The first game of the day was a defensively sound as neither team gave up a run until late in the game.
  • Mount Olive scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as Eileen Barrera came to the plate with bases loaded. Barrera grounded out third-to-first but advanced all the runners a base to score Charlene Thompson.
  • The Cobras countered in the top of the seventh with an RBI double down the left line to knot the score at one all.
  • UMO could not capitalize in the bottom of the seventh as they left one stranded and extra innings were needed.
  • Coker's lead-off batter walked and was advanced to third on a pair of groundouts from the two following batters. The lead-off batter came home on a single to shortstop to give the Cobras a 2-1 lead.
  • Charlene Thompson led off with a single through the right side and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cassandra Lassiter, but was left stranded as Callie Ferrell and Barrera struck out and flew out to left field as UMO dropped game one 2-1 in eight innings.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Game two was much like the first in that the first six innings saw a lot of good defensive play from both teams.
  • UMO got the first run of the game, their only of the game, in the bottom of the sixth as a double to centerfield from Alexis Oliver drove home Hannah Burress who reached base on a fielders choice.
  • The Cobra bats came alive in the top of the seventh as Coker batted around and scored seven runs on pitcher Mallory Ratcliff.
