TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Mount Olive softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader against the Crusaders of North Greenville University in Conference Carolinas action on Friday evening at Jan McDonald Field in Tigerville, S.C.

How It Happened

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Neither team found the first run until the bottom of the fourth inning when a double to left center field by the Crusaders scored the two base runners giving North Greenville a 2-0 lead.
  • UMO answered back with a double of their own in the top of the sixth as Megan Bryant scored a pair of RBI as Callie Ferrell and Madison Morgan came across home plate knotting the score at two runs each.
  • The Trojans took a one-run lead in the top of the ninth as a Heather Childress single to right field scored Megan Bryant who was placed at second due to the extra innings international softball rule to start the inning. Bryant advanced to third on a Cassandra Lassiter SAC bunt and crossed home during the Childress at-bat.
  • Unfortunately North Greenville also made the best of their runner on second opportunity as they knotted the score at three all in the bottom of the ninth following a similar SAC bunt situation for the Crusaders.
  • Charlene Thompson took second base in the top of the tenth inning and made her way to third on a SAC bunt by Amber Elliott. Thompson came home on a fly ball to center field by Morgan to give UMO the 4-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the 10th.
  • NGU again scored to tie the game at four-all and neither team could take advantage of the runner on second in the 11th or 12th innings.
  • UMO failed to score in the top of the 13th inning while North Greenville found the game-winning run in the bottom of the 13th as a wild-pitch scored the final run giving the Crusaders the 5-4 win in 13 innings.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Game two was controlled by the Crusaders who scored the first run in the bottom of the third inning on a runners-on-the-corners single to left center field giving NGU a 1-0 lead.
  • North Greenville's lead grew to two as a double down the left field line scored the runner from third, who reached on a double to start the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • The Crusaders put two more up on the board in the bottom of the fifth as back-to-back singles were enough to score the RBI's.
  • Mount Olive fended off the shutout as they put a run up in the top of the sixth inning as Heather Childress crossed home plate following a double to left field by Madison Morgan. Childress reached base on a double of her own out to centerfield.
  • The Trojans went down one, two, three in the top of the seventh as the Crusaders took game two 4-1 and completed the sweep on the day.
