Trojans Rally To Defeat Queens 13-12

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team overcame a five-goal deficit to defeat the Royals of Queens University 13-12 on Thursday afternoon in non-conference NCAA Division II women's lacrosse. Michaela Ciciarelli scored the game-winning goal to give the Trojans the win. Kiara Burke and Jordan Shughrue each scored four goals in the game.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST HALF

  • Kiara Burke got things rolling with the Trojans first goal of the game just a minute and a half into action.
  • Queens tied the score at one-all about a minute later before Mount Olive's Burke put up back-to-back goals to give UMO a 3-1 advantage.
  • The Royals knotted up the score at three-all by the 18:26 mark, but Jordan Shughrue gave the Trojans the one-point lead on a man-up opportunity off of the assist from Jackie Kaderabek.
  • Over a 10-minute time span, Queens went on a 5-0 spurt taking an 8-4 lead over Mount Olive.
  • UMO, however, got the last word in by scoring a goal courtesy of Michaela Ciciarelli on an assist by Kaderabek, as the teams entered halftime sitting at 8-5.

SECOND HALF

  • The Trojans got things going first in the second half as well as Shughrue closed the point spread to two, 8-6, off a pass from Nola Wesche.
  • The Royals retaliated with three consecutive goals, including a man-down shot, that opened up a five-goal differential by the 18:40 mark.
  • Kaderabek put up a pair of goals that cut the Queens lead to three, 11-8, before the Royals added another point to the board with just over 13 minutes to play.
  • The remainder of the game was the Mount Olive show as the Trojans scored five unanswered goals for the come from behind win. Shughrue put up another pair of goals to start the rally. Burke added her fourth goal of the game pulling the Trojans within one point, while Ciciarelli tied the match up at 12 goals each and scored the game-winner with just under five minutes to play to secure the Trojans 13-12 win.
