Women's Tennis Split On Final Day Of The City of Florence 2019 College Tournament

FLORENCE, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team split their matches on the final day of the City of Florence 2019 College Tournament hosted by Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. The Trojans fell 4-3 to the Wolves of Newberry College and defeated the Big Blues of Bluefield State College 4-0.

  • The Trojans found themselves behind 1-0 after losing the doubles point despite Lina Maria Alarcon and Arianna Orozco picking up a 6-4 win as the No. 1 duo.
  • UMO took a 3-2 lead after winning three of four singles games completed but the Wolves won the final two games to win the match 4-3.
  • Deike SchipperArianna Orozco, and Carmen Espinos each picked up wins in their respective singles bouts.

  • The Trojans went ahead early in the match score as UMO won doubles No. 1 and No. 3 to win the doubles point.
  • Lina Maria Alarcon and Arianna Orozco won 6-3 as the No. 1 duo while Ece Yuksel and Rosario Bove, the No. 3 pair, defeated their opponents 6-2.
  • Mount Olive came out of the singles with the first three wins to take the match 4-0 and leaving the No. 3, 5, & 6 singles matches unfinished.
  • Alarcon got UMO a win at No. 2 singles with two perfect sets over her opponent, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Schipper won her bout at No. 4 in a closer 7-5, 6-1 result and Ece Yuksel clinched the match point with her 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1
