Trojans Wrap Up At The Vince Brown Invitational

Char'De Washington and Alexis McNeil set school records, while Franz Beyer, Triple jump and Petter Gustafsson, 60M hurdles became the fifth and sixth Trojans already this season to earn an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier as the University of Mount Olive men's and women's indoor track and field teams wrapped up competition in the Vince Brown Invitational in Newport News, Va. The two-day meet began Saturday and concluded Sunday.

Beyer posted a triple jump of 14.32M which broke the school by .16m. He finished third out of 16 runners overall. Gustafsson had a 60m hurdles time of 8.21 which broke the old school record of 8.36.

Angus Sinclair also set a new record with 2.01M high jump mark and sits tied with Beyer whom also jumped 2.01M. The old school record, set by Sinclair was eclipsed by just .02M.

Beyer and Gustafsson join teammates Aki Kitagawa (3000 meter), Franz Beyer (heptathlon), Angus Sinclair (heptathlon) and Austin Steagall (mile) as NCAA II provisional qualifiers.

For the third straight meet McNeil broke her own school record in the 60m dash. She posted a 7.77 time just .01 seconds faster than her previous mark. Washington broke her own school record for the second time this season with a weight throw distance of 15.62M. The throw was .47M longer than the past record.

The men's track and field team is still currently ranked first in the Southeast region by over 150 points and are No. 25 in the nation. Thw women's track and field team are ranked third in the Southeast region after jumping five spots last week.

Mount Olive returns to action on February 22 as they will compete in the 2015 Conference Carolinas Indoor Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C
