Leah Hanle Qualifies For NCAA Indoor Track And Field National Championship In First Meet Of The Season

Allendale, Mi. – The University of Mount Olive's Leah Hanle punched her ticket to the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championship after running her way to an automatic qualifier in the 5000m at the GCSU Holiday Open hosted by Grand Valley State University Friday. Hanle also demolished her own school record in the event by 59 seconds.

 NOTABLES

  • In the first meet of the indoor track and field season Leah Hanle finished second in a pack of 30 division II runners in the 5000m, however, her time was well above the NCAA Provisional Qualifying standard of 17:30.57, and also beat the automatic qualifying standard time of 16:35.42 securing the sophomore's place at the national championship in 2018.
  • The finishing time also destroyed the UMO school record of 17:31.66, held by Hanle, by 59 seconds.
  • Hanle was also the highest placing sophomore in the field as the next closest sophomore finished 10th.
  • The top three finishers in the 5000m all recorded NCAA Automatic Qualifying marks.
  • The NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field National Championship will take place March 9-10, 2018 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
