CENTRAL, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's track & field team won the 2017-18 Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Saturday in Central, S.C. The Championship is the fifth consecutive in program history.

WOMEN'S NOTABLES

  • Mount Olive had 26 Trojans earn a spot on the podium in their respective events.
  • Shona Blades, Brittany Beckford, Candise Lockett, Tameia Morrison, Leah Hanle, Celine Ritter, and Malak Kafi all became Conference Champions winning their events.
  • Candise Lockett set the new conference championship record in the hammer with her throw of 50.76m breaking the record previously held by UMO Alum Nicole Poppe from 2015 of 47.90m.
  • Leah Hanle set the new conference championship record in the steeplechase with her time of 10:18.33 breaking the record previously held by Ashley Sutherland from Converse College from 2015 of 11:21.23.
  • UMO saw three school records fall at the championships including Brittany Beckford's NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the high jump.
  • Mount Olive also saw 11 Trojans make moves in the UMO Top-10 in 15 different events.

UP NEXT

  • Mount Olive will wait to see if any of their NCAA Provisional qualifying marks will make the field at the 2018 NCAA DII Outdoor National Championships in Charlotte, N.C. May 24-26. Some Trojans, including Leah Hanle and Jonathan Dahlke, have already punched their ticket with automatic qualifying marks earlier in the season.
