Aiken, S.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the USC Aiken Invitational.

GAME 1 INFORMATION

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET
-Mount Olive opened the set by jumping out to an 8-5 lead fueled by three early kills by junior Mackenzie Call.
-Tied 15-15, USC Aiken pulled away with a 10-2 run to win the set.

SECOND SET
-The Trojans once again started fast, opening the set with a 5-3 lead
-USC Aiken then compiled a 12-2 run to take a 15-7 lead that the Pacers would not give up.

THIRD SET
-USC Aiken's runs again doomed the Trojans, as the Pacers used a 24-7 run to win the set after trailing 2-1.

KEY STATS
-Call led the Trojans with seven kills on 32 total attacks.
-Kamber Skeen led UMO with 15 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET
-Consistency was key for the Trojans, as UMO staved off Merrimack's runs.
-Leading 20-17, Mount Olive surged forward with a 5-1 run to win the set.
-The Trojans hit .154 in the set, while Merrimack hit -.077.

SECOND SET
-Mount Olive continued its early set success by jumping out to a 6-1 lead.
-Merrimack refused to go away quietly, taking a lead at 10-9.
-UMO quickly responded with an 8-1 run to take control of the set.
-The run was spurred by six-straight attacking errors by the Warriors.

THIRD SET
-Merrimack prevented the three-set sweep by mimicking UMO's typical play and taking an early lead.
-The Warriors broke out of their shell, hitting .233 in the third set, Merrimack's best set of the night.
-The Trojans looked to stop the Warriors push to extend the match by tying the set at 20-20, but MC fired back with a 5-0 run.

FOURTH SET
-UMO returned to form by taking an 8-3 lead to open the set.
-Freshman Natalie Perez helped power the Trojans' attack with two early kills to help lengthen UMO's advantage.
-With a comfortable lead, junior Mi'Kayla Benson received a set from Skeen and finished it for the match victory.

KEY STATS
-Perez led the Trojans with 13 kills and three block assists.
-Benson added 10 kills with a .409 hitting percentage.
-Skeen compiled 31 assists and nine digs.
-Junior Karley Pounds added 10 kills for the Trojans.
