Styles And Havens Have Record Breaking Night As Mount Olive Falls At Barton

WILSON, N.C. – The University of Mount Olive women's basketball team fell to the Bulldogs of Barton College 90-79 on Wednesday night in Conference Carolinas action in Wilson, N.C. Ni'Ya Styles set a new program record for career three-pointers made as she now sits in first with 222. Felecity Havens, junior guard/forward, surpassed 1,000 career points as she needed just 17 points going into the game to reach the career benchmark.

How It Happened


  • The two teams went back and forth over the first two and a half minutes with the teams sitting tied at eight-all with 7:33 remaining.
  • Barton opened up a six-point lead, 16-10, halfway through the quarter.
  • Mount Olive fought back in the following three minutes to take a 19-18 lead with 2:19 on the clock.
  • The Trojans closed out the quarter on a 6-2 run taking a 25-20 lead into the second quarter.


  • Barton caught the Trojans at 25 all less than 90-seconds into the quarter.
  • The score tied twice more, last at 30 all, before the Bulldogs took a three-point lead at the 6:43 mark.
  • Mount Olive stayed in the fight tying the score four more times over the following four minutes before Barton went on a 7-3 run to take a 49-45 lead into halftime.


  • UMO responded to Barton's eight-point lead by cutting the difference to four, 55-51, through the first three and a half minutes of the second half.
  • The Bulldogs increased their lead to 12 as the clock ticked down to four minutes remaining in the third quarter with the score at 63-51.
  • The Trojans pulled back within single digits, cutting the lead to seven, 65-58, but the home Bulldogs pulled away to hold a 12 point lead, 70-58, heading into the final 10 minutes.


  • The Bulldogs maintained a double-figure lead throughout the fourth quarter despite the Trojans outscoring Barton 21-20 in the quarter, as the Bulldogs took the 90-79 win.



  • Ni'Ya Styles became the new career leader for three-pointers made in a Trojan women's basketball uniform. She sat tied with Tomeka Prichard at 217career three-pointers made. Styles connected on five attempts against the Bulldogs to move into first with 222 threes.
  • Felecity Havens surpassed a career milestone of 1,000 career points. Havens needed just 17 points entering the game tonight to hit the mark and she scored 22 points against arch-rival Barton College.


The Trojans return to action on January 13 as they travel to Central, S.C. to face Conference Carolinas opponent Southern Wesleyan University. The Trojans and Warriors tip-off at 2 p.m. in game one of the women's and men's doubleheader.
