DUE WEST, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell to the Flying Fleet of Erskine College in three sets on Friday evening in Due West, S.C. The Trojans fall to 3-8 on the season and 0-5 against Conference Carolinas opponents. Erskine improves to 8-13, 3-3 on the season.
The Trojans hung with the Flying Fleet in the opening set only trailing four points at the end of the first set 25-21. Erskine then took control of the match, winning sets two and three with ease, 25-16 and 25-13 respectively.
Mount Olive was led by freshman Starr Sergent with seven kills in the evening. Amara Eziakonwa was just behind with six. Nicholle Yeo and Madison Goodman each recorded seven assists while splitting the setting duties.
Flying Fleet Leaders
The Fleet was led by Rebecca Massengill and Katy Torgerson with 10 kills each. Laney Gaston recorded 27 assists on the night and a match-high 14 digs. Sierra Wolter also tallied double-digit digs with 10 on the night.
The key moment of the match came in the third set when Erskine opened up a 10-4 lead right out the gate and the Trojans could not overcome the Fleet lead.
