CENTRAL, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team defeated the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan in five sets on Saturday afternoon in Central, SC. The Trojans improve to 6-13 overall and 2-9 in conference action, while the Warriors fall to 2-21 and 0-12.
The Warriors opened the match taking a 25-22 set one win. UMO countered with a 25-18 win in set two before SWU won set three 25-21. Mount Olive came back from trailing two sets to win the last two and take the match in five sets.
The Trojans were led by Amara Eziakonwa who tallied 20 kills, a season-high for the freshman. She was joined by Ania Keene (15) and Alyssa Jackson (11) who also recorded double-digit kills.
Olivia Johnson led the Warriors with 17 kills. Darby Sheets tallied 37 assists with Anna Martin collecting 25 digs.
The biggest momentum swing came in the fourth set when UMO came back from trailing 18-16 to winning the set 25-21 following a 9-3 rally. UMO carried that momentum into the fifth set to hold off the Warriors and win the match.
Mount Olive returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 6, as they return to Kornegay Arena for a home contest against the Valkyries of Converse College. The first serve is scheduled for 7 PM between the Trojans and Valkyries in a midweek Conference Carolinas matchup.
